Fox River Counseling Center opened its doors to the community on April 14 th , 2010. We started with three therapists in the old Lenox Candle Store on Bayshore Drive in Oshkosh, WI. Since then, we have moved to a new location and added to our staff. The Center has three licensed professional counselors, five licensed social workers, one licensed art therapist and one psychologist. Our staff have experience working with adult men and women, children and adolescents. They specialize in treating trauma, sex offenders, personality disorders (specifically borderline personality), anxiety, depression, criminal thinking, grief, and other life enrichment issues. Each counselor has had significant history working in the public mental health and correctional system, as well as experience with treatment in the community. You can contact each therapist on their page or call a counselor for an individual appointment.

Enrichment programs:

Enrichment programs are an affordable way to learn skills and enrich ones life. The target population is individuals that have commitments to the department of corrections or court system. These programs also target individuals that have difficulty in staying out of trouble with the law and would like to learn skills to enrich their life.

Responsible Living – Program for juveniles and adults, specifically individuals that continue to get into trouble for petty crime including vandalism, bad checks, repeat traffic and restitution.

Untangling Relationships – Program confronts key issues with co-dependency, including manipulation and dependent relationships. Targets substance abusers, criminals, domestic violence or dysfunctional relationships.

Parenting and Family Values – Designed to help participants develop parenting skills and assess values related to family. Clients will confront their parenting skills and habits, perform a clarification on their values regarding family, and establish appropriate discipline routines

Family Support – Cognitive behavioral program. Confronts individuals that fail to pay child support and helps them understand the harm this does to the family. This program is designed for individuals who have failed at obligations related to child/family support.

Job Readiness – This program targets offenders who have spent years in the criminal justice system. This program defines what a “good employee” is and help participants make self-assessments, set work goals and habits, and know hoe to get and keep a job as well as how and why people get promoted.

All of the enrichment programs have been empirically supported and developed by correctional counseling (Dr. Gregory L. Little & Dr. Kenneth D. Robinson).

Group Therapy:

Dual Diagnosis –This therapy program targets adult men and women with a co-occurring substance abuse and mental illness diagnosis. It is open-ended and participants will need to participate in an evaluation to assess appropriateness for placement.

AODA treatment – This group targets adult men and women with alcohol and substance abuse issues (w/out mental illness) utilizing a cognitive behavioral approach.

Sex Offender Treatment – The target population is adult male statutory sexual offenders.  Treatment will be provided utilizing a cognitive behavioral approach with an emphasis on cognitive distortions and sexual education.  Participants will be expected to engage in a risk assessment prior to placement in the program.

DBT – This group will also require individual therapy. This program will include, group, individual and skills coaching. It will follow closely to the Linehan model. This group addresses symptoms of borderline personality disorder to include self abuse and maladaptive behavior in response to intense emotions.

Women’s Trauma Treatment – This group will target adult women who have experienced negative symptoms due to a past traumatic experience or life event.

Counselors will begin prioritizing these groups based on enrollment and length of waiting lists.
